How Tiger Woods Got Big
You've done a great job. You did the doing. I was quite surprised how professional and buttoned down you were. I like that.
I have to say it was tough to write. I wasn't in a great mood for a little while and I really had to just 'get on with it'. As you know it' was stuffed with spelling mistakes because the heartache of belting out the truth is just tough. People don't want to know what's going on. Most people just want to have their perceptions and beliefs confirmed including ourselves.
However, I've been sitting on a burgeoning feeling for a few years now and your request helped me to to articulate what I feel and what I would wish others to feel. What I'd like to share.
Now that I think about it, nothing would please me more than to know the people who embrace the Passion Economy paper are not net-heads like us. I'd be exhillerated if the whole internet ignored it provided people who shun the latest mobile phones, blackberrys and computer interfaces read it and glimpsed a audacious way forward.
We have huge challenges to face up to and quite miraculously a plausible context for rewiring our wealth creation model. As Umair Haque says, ideals are asymmetric and where strategy is a commodity it's outcomes not incomes that matter.
You did a great job and thanks for asking me. Again I hope the people it inspires are those who will never come across us on the net. That would be ace, just bloody ace.
First, thanks for the new word. I've been using fecund for a week now since reading your first draft. Time to shake things up.
I understand your hesitance around this artifact circulating amongst the "already sold" or "elite" of the net. At the same time, what struck me so strongly about your piece was this opportunity that sharing has in this world today - where recency and access are no longer limited to who we explicitly directly speak to. I'd love to be able to track the path of this piece and see it ending up in the hands of those not expected or targeted.
Now I wish I had embedded some tracking code or that I was on a hosting platform that let me know how many people even downloaded the thing. ;)
I suppose we will have to wait and continue to fight to speak and share, hoping to impact change. And some day, in the mid-future, hopefully someone will look back on all the actions of people across the globe and write about how overcoming the disasters of the past showcases humanity's ability to weather the imminent disasters of their day.
Looking forward to blogging about the eventual responses and feedback.
I'm going to look at how to print this thing to look like a book on lulu or what have you. Because I remember going into one of the cooler coffee shops in town (tequilla bookworm). It was a vibrant place because it also sold books and periodicals. I remember seeing an amazing little book about the city we live in and as I leafed through it, I couldn't find a price.
I walked to the checkout counter/coffee bar and the person just shrugged. Said it wasn't one of theirs so they didn't know how much to charge for it. I have it to this day.
How neat would it be to leave it in places where people gather to read or find books? ie: Plant it in the library, bookshops, coffee shops, etc.
Well that meant getting a bit angry which I think comes out in the piece. I'd rather have done it in a more reflective mood but whatever the context I should have tried to have this chat first..
However, I"m very impressed with Matthew's line about people inspiring brands and not brands inspiring people. Very worthwhile. Keeps me going stuff like that.
Saul's tweets are pretty awesome.
OK time to roll :)

:) I hope to be able to catch you online and have a conversation before your journey kicks off. I'll keep skype fired up in the background just in case.
Dude. Let me say that I am honored and better for the piece you submitted. It's interesting looking back. I knew who I asked would greatly determine the final intent of this piece. I had all kinds of reactions. One person, who I love dearly, emailed me to say they didn't think they would be able to respond favorably. I asked them to respond regardless.
I am happy you responded from where you were emotionally. Would love to chat about it more.
Sean
Reminds me of the line "We are after all, all in it together".
