Yeah OK. Croydon isn't a place I'd choose to have a few drinks in as vomit is considered superior to intellect. There was one bar on the East Croydon side (I lived closer to West Croydon near the Norbury end) that was passable for a pint or two and paradoxically a proper old Croydon pub by the market that was a delight for watching the characters or even having a bit of a chat. It was right near the famous record shop that Tim blogged about.

Small world, I hail from Warlingham which is a stone's throw from Croydon, albeit in safety of the county of Surrey.

Gotta agree with the Indian cuisine, personal tips are Catamaran and Indian Dining (ID) both with a presence on the WWW and well worth a trip.

Somewhat strange to see someone bigging the big CR0 up, probably because, growing up in the area, we aspired to move on to bigger n better things. Bet you haven't sample the night life?

Yes Croydon is a place I love very much Jon. I've lived in the best parts of London; Belsize Park, Bloomsbury, The Angel and so on as well as many other parts, but it's Croydon that I enjoy the most. I like multi ethnic places, the Indian food is freaking ace and as a planner I can see so much more about British society and what filters down or through or sideways from places like Croydon.

I've good friends there too. I'm sure I wrote an homage to the place a while back but unable to find it, here are a few posts that make reference.
